Hide N'Go Seek in the Library

Books are arranged by call numbers

While the Library during the term is a pretty serious place and we hope all students respect their colleagues right to some quiet study space, we're going to play a variation on Hide N' Go Seek in the Library.

Each person in your class is going to be given information about either:

  1. a call number (for example HT 151 S476)
  2. a broad subject area (for example Communities)
a call number (for example HT 151 S476 is the call number for a book titled "The Humane City")
a call number (for example HT 151 S476 is the call number for a book titled "The Humane City")
a broad subject (for example Communities)
a broad subject (for example Communities)

For every call number there is one matching subject.

The goal of this game is to find your partner in the Library!

[edit] What to do if you have a call number

At the end of each range of shelves are shelf range cards to help you know what call numbers are there
  • If you are given a call number
  • Go to the book stacks on the 5th floor of Centennial Hall (enter the Library first)
  • Locate the call number (book), or (if it is not on the shelf, just stay nearby)
  • Wait for your partner (the person with the subject that matches your call number) to find you

To locate your call number (book) in the book stacks,
look for the number on the signs at the end of the shelves.
Look on both sides of the signs.

  • The person with the subject will use the Library of Congress Classification Scheme to determine where his/her partner is in the book shelves.
  • Subject Heading posters that are on ends of many of the bookshelves in the Library, or refer to the hand out you have been given.
